Saint James School of Medicine Introduces a New Provost

Saint James School of Medicine announced the appointment of Dr. Jose Ramirez to the position of Provost and Chief Academic Officer.

PARK RIDGE, IL, February 16, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Saint James School of Medicine, a leading Caribbean medical school, announced the appointment of Dr. Jose Ramirez to the position of Provost and Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Ramirez succeeded Dr. Benjamin Lumicao, who held the position for nearly five years.

Dr. Jose Ramirez is a medical graduate from UNEFM in Venezuela. He began teaching in 2004, training medical students and interns while training at Hospital Vargas de Caracas for his surgical specialty. He went on to become a top flight surgeon for several hospitals in Venezuela and became the coordinator of the postgraduate studies program for surgery at the Perez de Leon Hospital in Caracas, Venezuela.

With a lifelong passion for practicing surgery and educating young minds, Dr. Ramirez continued teaching at every opportunity and has six publications detailing his surgical techniques. In 2008, he even won a contest at the International Congress of Surgery in Caracas, Venezuela for his video, “Microvascular Flap of Fibula: Its Use for Oral Cavity Reconstruction.”

Dr. Ramirez served as a faculty member at the Saint James School of Medicine, Anguilla campus for nearly five years, and since 2021 he has served as Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs of the school. Effective February 1st, 2023, Dr. Ramirez has been appointed as the Provost and Chief Academic Officer.

“I believe the foundation of a great education involves more than academic knowledge. By preparing future physicians with the ethics of value, honor, and philanthropy, as well as medical knowledge, I feel that our students can achieve the most for themselves and help make a difference for those suffering in our world,” said Dr. Ramirez.
