Consumers Need Relief At The Pumps
CINCINNATI, OH, April 08, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — As gas prices surge past $4 per gallon nationwide and threaten to climb even higher due to the ongoing conflict with Iran, congressional candidate Holly Adams is calling for an immediate suspension of the federal gas tax to provide relief to hardworking Americans.
Rising tensions in the Middle East have severely disrupted global oil supplies, with the Strait of Hormuz—a key artery for global energy—impacted by the conflict, driving sharp increases in fuel costs across the United States.
“With gas prices skyrocketing because of instability overseas, Washington cannot sit back and do nothing while American families are squeezed at the pump,” said Adams. “A suspension of the federal gas tax is a common-sense, immediate step to put money back in the pockets of working Americans.”
The national average price for gasoline has already surpassed $4 per gallon, with some analysts warning it could exceed $5 if the conflict continues.
Adams emphasized that families, small businesses, and commuters in Ohio’s First Congressional District are already feeling the impact.
“People in Southwest Ohio rely on their cars to get to work, take their kids to school, and run their businesses. They can’t absorb these price shocks the way Washington bureaucrats can,” Adams said. “Every extra dollar spent on gas is a dollar not spent on groceries, rent, or savings.”
Lawmakers in Washington have begun discussing a potential federal gas tax holiday as one way to offset rising costs, noting it could provide immediate relief for consumers and businesses dependent on transportation.
Adams pointed to action already taken at the state level as proof that tax relief works, noting that states like Georgia have temporarily suspended gas taxes to ease the burden on residents amid the crisis.
“This shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Adams added. “If states can act quickly to help their residents, Congress should do the same. Families need relief now—not months from now.”
In addition to suspending the federal gas tax, Adams called for a broader energy strategy focused on increasing domestic production and reducing reliance on foreign oil.
“America has the resources to be energy dominant,” Adams said. “We should be lowering costs here at home, not leaving ourselves vulnerable to global conflicts that drive up prices overnight.”
Adams pledged that if elected to Congress, she will push for immediate action on a federal gas tax suspension and long-term policies aimed at restoring energy independence and lowering costs for American families.
