San Francisco, CA, March 20, 2018 –(PR.com)– Hosanna Transitional Living operates a six-bed sober living environment (SLE) for adolescent males that have completed drug or alcohol treatment. They recently applied for and were granted registration by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP). Hosanna Transitional Living pursued voluntary registration to ensure they meet the highest possible standards for sober living environments in the State. The State of California does not currently license, certify or register sober living homes of any type.
Many people in California who complete drug or alcohol treatment do not have access to quality sober living environments after completing drug treatment. The situation is even more difficult for adolescents completing addiction treatment who need sober living to maintain their sobriety after completing a program. Hosanna Transitional Living created the transitional living home to address the critical shortage of sober living beds for adolescent males in Northern California. While CCAPP does not certify or accredit sober living environments, it does have peers visit the and review the site to witness that it does meet the minimum standards and then adds the SLE to their registry. The registry is one way consumers can find sober living environments that have been reviewed by peers and meet the minimum standards set by CCAPP.
Research has shown that upon completing treatment, the longer a person is exposed to a sober community and engages with it, the longer they will stay sober. The sober living environment is designed to provide the best chance of success in early recovery for teens and their families who are strongly motivated to change their life. The Hosanna Transitional Living home offers 24/7 supervision, onsite school support, case management, local transportation and full room and board for its residents. It is one of two adolescent sober living environments in Northern California, and the only sober living home in California that allows a teen to complete an outside drug or alcohol treatment program of their choice prior to residency. The handful of other transitional housing programs for teens in California require residents to complete their specific treatment program first before residing at their SLE.
“As an adult, upon completing a drug treatment program, you would have many options for sober living when you leave treatment, that is not the case for adolescents anywhere in the State of California. We participated in the voluntary registration process to ensure we met the standards for sober living set by CCAPP and the safest environment possible for our clients,” says Sherrie Rager, Ph.D., Program Director at Hosanna Transitional Living.
Residents can expect to focus on their ongoing recovery by attending recovery meetings, meeting regularly with their case manager, participating in daily house meetings, outside counseling/therapy appointments, and spiritual growth activities. All residents are required to attend full-time school, work or volunteer activities.
“After a teen completes treatment, they often return home and are exposed to old friends and engaged in a dysfunctional family dynamic that was not adequately addressed in treatment. In many cases, it sets teens up for relapse. We provide better chances for success in long-term recovery by removing those pitfalls and providing a positive environment,” says Verne Teyler, Founder of Hosanna Transitional Living.
