Seattle Music isn’t just real, it’s a movement

A Hip Hop phenomenon making waves in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

SEATTLE, WA, November 14, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Twenty years ago, Mr. Benjamin made his mark in hip-hop history as the first Seattle artist to have his music video on B.E.T.’s “Uncut”. His standout track, “The Anthem (What’s My Name),” garnered attention and marked a turning point in his musical journey. Since then, Mr. Benjamin has received numerous awards and commendations, including being the first recipient of Obamacare in the region. He has been recognized by esteemed figures like former Washington State governor Gary Locke, Seattle’s Governor Jay Robert Inslee, and then Mayor Paul Schell. In addition, Mr. Benjamin has been honored at the West Coast Hip-Hop (WHHH) awards and voted for the “Best of the Best 2003 Readers’ Choice” award. His positive contributions to the local youth have been acknowledged by The Seattle Times.

Fast forward to 2016, Mr. Benjamin’s son, Maribased1, emerged as a new talent and has since made a significant impact with multiple hits and appearances on B.E.T. Jams. His latest single, “SEATTLE GOT THAT FIRE,” celebrates the strength of Seattle’s sports teams and has gained international recognition in Africa, including airplay on MTV Nigeria.

But there’s more to Mr. Benjamin than just music. He kickstarted the “Seattle Music is real” platform in Columbia City, Seattle. This initiative stands against violence, guns, gangs, and drugs, and provides a platform for local artists in the Pacific Northwest region. DJ Nasty Ness started the ‘Seattle Music is Real’ movement in the 80s with Mr. Benjamin expanding it for today’s generation.
