Austrian-born, Mag. Rodrigues is partner and creative director of the award-winning New York-based visual branding studio Magical Monkey. Founded in 2020, she and her team have developed trusted and recognized visual brand identities for clients all over the world. Mag. Rodrigues’ significant achievements in the design field have also been recognized by peers and industry organizations. Her awards include the prestigious Promax Award, Gold and Silver Medals in the NCMPR Paragon Awards, several American Corporate Identity Awards, and publications in Advertising Women of New York, HOW International Design, Creativity, and Advertising Age, among many others.
Apart from her career endeavors leading Magical Monkey, in 2011, Mag. Rodrigues collaborated with director/producer Graham Elliott on the award-winning documentary film ‘New York in Motion.’ In the same year, their first film was selected for the industry-leading documentary film festival IDFA in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and went on to be featured in numerous film festivals across Europe, the United States, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. The film’s success inspired their current project, ‘World in Motion – Visual Culture in the Making,’ an interactive documentary format investigating how cultural identity manifests itself in design and communication arts. The project took the team to almost 30 countries and was introduced and subsequently premiered at the ‘International Motion Festival’ in Cyprus in 2015 and 2017. The series’ ‘World-in-Motion | Bangkok’ segment was screened on the opening night of the ‘Bangkok Design Week 2019’ in Thailand. Mrs. Rodrigues and Mr. Elliott returned to the ‘Bangkok Design Week 2020’ holding workshops and lectures the following year, just before the pandemic shut down international travel. They are currently in preparation to continue the project.
Mag. Rodrigues’ work as an artist was featured in “The Turn of the Century: A Carousel” (2001) and “What Makes Them Tick?” (2002). Both shows toured several major US cities, among them celebrated exhibitions in iconic public spaces like Grand Central Station in New York City and Union Station in Washington, DC.
For the last 25 years, Mag. Rodrigues has also been an associate faculty member at the renowned School of Visual Arts in New York, where she teaches Design, Branding, and Multi-Media Design. She has led numerous workshops on Creativity, Branding, and Multi-Media Design at conferences around the world, among them in Cyprus, Brazil, Thailand, and India.
Mag. Rodrigues graduated with distinction from the University of Economics in Vienna, Austria, and with distinction from the Conservatory of Music in Vienna, where she majored in Theater and Musical Operetta. She was also grateful to receive several scholarships from the Austrian government to pursue her studies at UCLA, California, and the School of Visual Arts, New York, completing both with honors.
